What happened to my budget? I had one for April, but it seems I’ve completely disregarded it. I’ve made multiple purchases from the Container Store, a purchase for a new purse for my mom (and some accessories she doesn’t know about) and a couple bags for me from Thirty-One, a couple purchases from Garnet Hill for sheets and bed things (also for my mom), a recent eBay purchase for a hobby, and who knows what else! All of these purchases have been online! And it’s only the middle of the month.
So today I’m heading in the other direction for the rest of the month. I will be frugal. A tightwad. :) I will do better in May. I know budgets are easy to make, but hard to stick to sometimes. I’m trying not to beat myself up over it.
I’m having trouble being patient with my budget and savings for various things. I want to really pile some money in my mutual funds for later down the road, but I also want to fund my land/house fund quickly. And that’s not going all that quickly… I have the state retirement for education being funded through each paycheck, Roth IRA contributions to the max for the year (contributed to monthly after I get paid), and I’m piling more in mutual funds. I’ve heard that you’re supposed to contribute 15% of your income to saving/investing for retirement, but that doesn’t seem like enough to me. Having a retirement fund is important to me and my sanity. While I know nothing is certain in the future, I want to plan for me being there. I guess I don’t think that for being 29 that I have enough saved so far for my older self.
